Ep. 2 Additional thoughts: Are the 90's and 00's really the same?

Tech Starting To Be Common At Home:

So, in the world of podcasting and thoughts it seems to me I may have forgotten some additional thoughts to episode 2. Which, if I'm being honest isn't a surprise since I did have to record it twice prior to uploading due to the audio issues on the first run. Yet, I think that this episode shares a lot of nostalgia when talking about the 90's and the 2000's. For crying out loud I would dare to say that my childhood even though scarred. There were moments that I truly cherished and keep near and dear to my heart. Yes, how heartwarming... right?! The truth is that even though there are similarities to both the 90's and the 2000's. They are different in many ways. 

Yes, technology was starting to introduce itself into our homes in the 90's. However, a lot of things were predominantly analog. And if my memory serves me well. It was in the 2000's where tech actually made its way to our homes in a more aggressive way. Though DVR invented and released in 1999 was a thing. We have seen more of them in the homes in the early 2000's making streaming a reality. Also, let's be honest here. With the price of TiVo most households couldn't afford it anyways. 

The Fun Factor And The Shift:

Then let us talk about the FUN factor. I would dare to say that staying outside till the streetlights came on, or in my case the yelling of your mother calling your name was much more memorable than most of the experiences with those born in the 2000's. Let's be real here, to have truly enjoyed things as a kid you had to be around 8-10 years old. Yes, you can remember things prior to that. But what I'm talking about is going outside getting lost with no sense of time and playing games all day! Tag anybody? 

When I look at the people that were born in the 2000's I think about tech and the involvement and evolving moments of it. By the time they could enjoy things and experience levels of hope, punishment, frustration, etc. Would've been around the 2010's when you think about it. And when we look at the 2010's what do we see? Well, the introduction to smart phones and additional tech. And a game revolution as well. Both the Xbox 360 and PS3 respectfully released in 2005 and 2006! What does that say about the 2000's kids growing up and their experience in the gaming field. 

Online gaming was starting to pick up during those times. The having friends over ideal wasn't the same as the generations of gaming before it. We were introduced to online gaming with people screaming and yelling at each other over headsets and only if you could afford one. The costs of snacks went up following cost of living as time does to everything it seems. However, kids from the 2000's didn't spend as much time outside as those from the generation before them. Some may think so, some may even have legit memories of going outside and playing tag or something like that.

But the questions aren't whether they have those memories. The real question is, how much of the memories of your youth are those kinds of memories? I would dare to say that 90's kids have a bunch of them. I surely due, and though yes, I have memories playing the NES and SNES and other consoles. I preferred to spend most of time outside with my friends. Getting hurt, laughing, frustrated, every feeling you could get. Being inside was not as good as it is today. And the 2000's kids know deep down inside that this is true.
