Ep.1 Additional thoughts: Gaming taking all of our coins

Original reason for blog:

Clearly creating this blog was made to go hand and hand with the podcast. Why? You may ask?  Well, I think that sometimes a person doesn't want to spend an hour on recording a podcast. On top of that the average person's attention span isn't that high in most cases. The truth is keeping a singular voice talking probably makes the most sense for it to last about 20 - 30 minutes at most if you ask me personally. So, unless I have invitee joining the conversation. I will be trying my best to keep the podcast episodes to this range I just stated. 

Now, on the other hand of things. This blog can be a companion to the podcast. Meaning, if I had some additional thoughts on an episode or something just couldn't fit in. Here is the place you'll find it. There's nothing wrong with reading a little right? 😄 Also, as you can see here this isn't made to be a professional blog. There will be emoji's since it's probably the only other way I can express myself in text. 

The past consoles were expensive but affordable:

Enough about the reason for this blog and what you are to expect from it. Let me share some additional thoughts about the first episode. The thing that I did want to go deeper into was simply the cost of gaming systems before and now. Even with the most recent price hikes. I think there will be people to point out that a lot of the consoles and systems in the 90's were pretty expensive for the time in itself. To them, I will say I agree to an extent. 

Why though? Well simply this here... The economy was in a better place in the 90's most household were able to afford a simple console for their children to enjoy. Even before the 2010's gaming was affordable. I can say this for myself; I didn't grow up with a silver spoon. We struggled a lot financially and there were some Christmas's that we didn't get anything. Yet, at some point as a kid I had an NES, Super Nintendo, Nintendo 64, Sega Genesis, PS Original, Game Cube, PS2, Original Xbox, and probably a few other consoles specifically handhelds. 

We were a family of 4 boys and 1 girl, and my father was in and out of prison often. Yet, gaming was affordable enough for us to basically enjoy it. What we are seeing now is basically a time where gaming is almost impossible. And the next generation of gaming maybe untouchable for most households. I understand that the RAM crisis and AI are the cause of all of what is currently happening in the gaming space. 

Extending console life:

Yet, I think that these gaming companies can learn a thing or two from Nintendo specifically. The Switch alone has taken a life of its own. It has truly lasted and passed the test of time. Which if you ask me personally, I think both the PS5 and Xbox series S and X has plenty of life in them left. Personally, I think that most developers haven't taken advantage of the hardware completely and in some cases haven't optimized games to play much better on those consoles. I get it there must be a lot of time and work that is done for the games to not only run on PC's but on different consoles. 

Though I think for the price that they are charging now for games it would only make sense if they carved more time in to make sure that games are running to their full potential. Or be like Cyberpunk and learn to optimize as time goes by to make an experience worth enjoying. 

My final rant here is this. These consoles are more than capable of giving us another 5-10 years easily. I know there might be some that want a new generation of consoles right now! But let's be honest here, is this the actual time for one? No! Unless you can pay a month's rent or mortgage for a console with no remorse or without living penalized for that decision, you're probably one of few that will be happy to pay that amount.  But the average consumer will hurt paying it. 

So, let's agree to disagree here. We should wait another 5-10 years for another console and just enjoy what we have now. Because clearly gaming is getting out of hand. And we just want to enjoy the thing that helps us escape reality. The same way we used to escape it in the 90's well not exactly. But close enough!
